Project Director

Kristy Ford

The Aullaagvik Apprenticeship Program is a U.S. Department of Labor-registered teacher apprenticeship that enables local school district employees participate in on-the-job learning, mentorship, and academic coursework through a partnership with the University of Alaska Anchorage while remaining in their communities.

Designed to grow Alaska’s home-grown educator workforce, especially in rural Alaska, the program embeds Inuit Circumpolar Education Strategies and Indigenous pedagogies into its design to ensure future teachers are grounded in culturally responsive frameworks, Inuit values, and community-centered teaching practices.

By integrating these culturally rooted strategies, Aullaagvik not only prepares teachers for certification but also fosters educators who reflect and sustain Indigenous knowledge systems and community priorities in classroom practice
